My journey through life led me to want to understand how individuals are impacted by their experiences and circumstances. Actions and reactions, creating the path we follow consciously and unconsciously.
In 2000 I read “A Way of Being” by Carl Rogers (a psychologist who developed the person-centred approach). Rogers’ philosophy on authenticity and how we think about ourselves, is connected to how we accept ourselves and others and is key.
My Social Sciences and Counselling Therapy training helped me develop a deep insight into the complexities of relationships and how they are understood better through our awareness and compassion.
Becoming a counsellor was inevitable.
I know how lucky I am to have had an incredibly encouraging family around me helping and supporting me in my journey, but it was still tough! I know what it is like to be on the ‘other side’! I know what it’s like to be in the counselling chair, feeling raw, questioning and challenging my own thoughts and beliefs. And I know how scary and confronting it can be to even begin to contemplate that there are other possibilities other than my own limited vision and expectations. Some of the many reasons I am so passionate about helping others.
Working with a Professional
I work with issues that impact emotionally and psychologically, issues such as anxiety, abuse, low self-esteem, and relationship issues. Together with my professional training and life experience, I offer empathy and common sense to help you explore those issues affecting you right now and help you move toward resolution.
Research shows that success in therapy depends on the quality of the relationship and the rapport that is built up between a client and a counsellor, rather than the type of therapy. It is therefore important to work with a therapist who has been trained to a high level and understands the vital role of relationship.
